Abstract
There exists a close relation between language and culture.In foreign language teaching attention should be paid to both cultural background knowledge of the target language and integration and transmission of the culture of the source language.However,the failure of introducing Chinese culture and misunderstanding of Chinese culture in cross-cultural communication are becoming an evident phenomenon.Based on a test of students' competence of expressing Chinese culture in English and a survey of the opinions on learning Chinese culture,the present paper discusses the problems in English teaching in China and proposes some ways to change the situation so as to improve Chinese students' cross-cultural communicative competence.
