Survey of general population's knowledge about AIDS in Bengbu city

Abstract

Objective To understand the situation of the Bengbu City and the urban community residents in the township about AIDS-related knowledge and attitudes of the known cases so as to carry out further targeted study and provide the basis of AIDS health education.Methods Randomed sampling was condncted in July 2007 in communities of Yuqing,Tongleyuan Xiangqian,Xiaobengbu,Lilou and Wu xiaojie with a total of 600 residents involved.Results The overall awareness of urban and rural residents was 73.00%.The average rural residents AIDS awareness was 65.75% and 79.51% for urban residents.Conclusion We should continue to improve,especially in rural areas,the knowledge of AIDS and eliminate discrimination and fear of AIDS.
