Changes of corneal astigmatism following phacoemulsification with unfold intraocular lens implantation

OBJECTIVE To investigate the changes of corneal astigmatism following phacoemulsification with unfold intraocular lens implantation and evaluate the influence of suture or without suture for a scleral tunnel incision on corneal astigmatism.METHODS Phacoemulsification with unfold intraocular lens implantation was performed on 127 cases(135 eyes)for a scleral tunnel incision and the patients were divided into group A and group B by suture of incision or without incision. The changes of corneal astigmatism before and after operation were compared between group A and B.RESULTS One year after the operation an average diopter of surgical astigmatism was 0.76D±0.54D in the group A and 1.84D±0.63D in the group B respectively. There was significant difference statistically between two groups (P0.05). The visual acuity without correction≥0.5 was 89.92% and 65.55% in group A and Respectively. There was significant difference, statistically (P0.05) between two groups. CONCLUSIONS There was evident and permanence astigmatism against rule after phacoemulsification with unfold intraocular lens implantation without suture for a scleral tunnel incision. It could reduced corneal astigmatism to suture conventional incision postoperatively.
