Comparison of effects and factors between risperidone and chlorpromazine on schizophrenia

Abstract

AIM:To compare the effects and the factors between risperidone and chlorpromazine on schizophrenia. METHODS:Fifty five patients with schizophrenia were treated by risperidone with enough dosage and fifty two patients as control by chlorpromazine for 8 wk.The effects of these two drugs were rated with PANSS(Positive and Negative Symptom Scale).All the data were analyzed by the χ 2 , t test and the multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: The total effect of risperidone group and chlorpromazine group was 76 % and 88 %, respectively.The effects of these two groups on positive and general symptoms were better than those on negative ones.The effects of risperidone group were related to the dose,the family history and the severity of symptoms,but those of chlorpromazine group not. CONCLUSION: The effects of risperidone are equal to those of chlorpromazine,but the factors for risperidone differ from those for chlorpromazine.
