THE VALUE OF LAPAROSCOPY IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF PATIENTS WITH ASCITES OF UNKNOWN CAUSES

Abstract

Objective To study the applications of diagnostic laparoscopy for patients with ascites of unknown origin. Methods A laparoscopy was used for 56 patients with unknown origin ascites, for whom various modern radiographic techniques had been used but failed to confirm. Results No complications were noted. The diagnosis was confirmed in 52 patients,confirmation rate being 92.8%. Conclusion The diagnostic laparoscopy is a safe and accurate method for the diagnosis of patients with unknown origin ascites.
