Abstract
AIM:To compare mineral trioxide aggregate(MTA) with calcium hydroxide when they are used as apexification material in human teeth.METHODS: Ninety eight teeth with pulpitis and/or apicitis were collected in patients between 9 and 16 years of age,and then they were randomly divided into two groups.One group was treated with MTA and the other group was treated with calcium hydroxide.RESULTS: The rate of successful apex closure in the group using MTA on apexification was 92%,compared to 52% in the group using calcium hydroxide with statistics significance(P0.05).The pulp survival rate and dentinal bridge thickness were both significantly higher and thicker in the group using MTA.CONCLUSION: MTA approach for treating apexification was appropriate,effective and acceptable.It is a treatment with great potential and should be mastered.
