Abstract

Deinococcus radiodurans (DR) as a model organism in DNA damage and repair, is the most resistant bacterium to ionizing radiation. It is extremely resistant to a number of agents and conditions that damage DNA, including ionizing and ultraviolet (UV) radiation and hydrogen peroxide. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms responsible for the extraordinary resistance to radiation in this organism. The possible DNA repair mechanism including excision repairing and recombination repairing. In this paper, recent research progresses on DNA repair mechanism would be summarized.
