Abstract
Objective To study the surgical timing and effectiveness of congenital cataract. Methods Cataract extraction combined with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in transparent corneal incision was performed in 62 cases (102 eyes) of congenital cataract. Results Postoperatively, visual acuity improved in 71 eyes,5 eyes (7.04%) achieved visual acuity1.0. 21 eyes (29.58%) had visual acuity ranging from 0.6 to 1.0. 25 eyes (35.21%) visual acuity was ranging from 0.3 to 0.5. And 20 eyes (28.17) visual acuity was0.3. The remaining 30 eyes (30.39%) were not able to cooperate with performing the vision check. The main complications included cornea edema, posterior synechia, pupillary capture, after cataract. Conclusion Congenital cataract can lead the un_reversible damage of visual acuity.Early treatment to congenital cataract is correlated to good visual prognosis, which is highly recommended. For the single eye cataract, intracocular lens (IOL) should be implanted during the first period no matter how old the child is.For the congenital cataract in both eyes of the children aging 3-4 years old, cataract can be extracted first and IOL implantatim performed before school. And vision training is help ul to increase the postoperative visual acuity.
