Abstract

This thesis mainly deals with the adoption of theatricality from traditional Chinese Opera in Thornton Wilder's masterpiece Our Town.Since the 20th Century,traditional Chinese Opera has influenced the western theatrical circles with its unique performance characteristic.Western playwrights find the artistic elements they need in traditional Chinese Opera,and Thornton Wilder is one of them.Traditional Chinese Opera has the characteristics of openness and fictitiousness,with the former aiming at the improvement of relations between the actors and the audience,and the latter implying the actors use imaginative movement to arouse the imagination of the audience.
