Abstract

Wood basic density in masson pine families and individuals were studied based on data of 73 families and 656 individuals from 9 year old progeny plantation of masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.).The results showed that there were small variation in wood basic density at family level and big variation at individual level .The genetic correlations between wood basic density and DBH ,stem volume and branch circle were adverse and very significant, while wood basic density had strong genetic correlation with stem straightness. It was possible to select good masson pine families and individuals with high wood basic density and high yielding.
