Abstract

The sorghum seeds' germination and its seedlings' growth reacted to the stresses from NaCl and Na2CO3 in different concentrations(0,50,100,150,200,300 mmol·L-1) was researched. The results showed that the germination rate of sorghum seeds decreased with the increase of the salt-alkaline concentration,in which the germination rate of the sorghum seeds processed by Na2CO3 decreased significantly greater than NaCl.The growth potential of seedlings showed significant negative correlation with both salt and alkaline concentration, but the performances were different with the increase of NaCl concentration:the length of the sorghum's radical and embryo decreased gradually, while the length of the sorghum root declined faster in Na2CO3 solution, and even in 50mmol·L-1 it had essentially no growth, which showed that growth inhibition of Na2CO3 on sorghum is greater than NaCl and that sorghum has stronger salt resistant, but weaker alkali resistant.
