Abstract

Objective To detect and analyze the mycoplasma infection in human breast carcinoma and to explore the relationship between the infection with the development, prognosis and process mechanism of breast carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical and reverse transcriptase -polymerase chain reaction methods were employed to detect the mycoplasm infection,c -myc protein,H -ras gene expression in 165 specimens of breast carcinoma and normal breast tissue adjacent to cancer tissue,80 specimens of benign breast disease. Results The positive rate of mycoplasma PD4 in breast cancer, normal breast tissue adjacent to cancer, and specimens of benign breast disease were 30.30%,9.70%,7.50% ,respectively. The positive rate of mycoplasma PD4 of breast cancer was significantly higher than those of normal breast tissue adjacent to cancer and specimens of benign breast disease (χ2=21.89,15.89, P0.05). The expressional rate of c-myc and H-ras gene in PD4 positive and negative breast cancer was 50.00% and 27.83%, which had a significant difference (χ2=7.57, P0.05). The 5-year survival rate of PD4 positive and negative breast cancer was 80.01% and 87.02%,which had no obvious difference (χ2=1.31,P0.05). Conclusions Breast cancer had a high infection rate of mycoplasma. The higher expression of c-myc and H-ras gene in PD4 positive breast cancer may relate to the development of breast cancer, and not relate to the prognosis.
