Satisfaction of Patients with Complete Dentures with Lingualized Occlusion

Objective To evaluate the satisfaction of patients with complete dentures with lingualized occlusion.Methods Ten edentulous patients intending to wear complete dentures were randomly divided into group A and group B,with 5 patients in each group.All patients received two pairs of dentures(one was complete dentures with lingualized occlusion,the other was complete dentures with anatomic bilateral balanced occlusion).Patients in group A received lingualized occlusion intervention in the first phase and anatomic bilateral balanced occlusion intervention in the second phase.On the contrary,patients in group B received anatomic bilateral balanced occlusion intervention in the first phase and lingualized occlusion intervention in the second phase.After wearing complete dentures for 8 weeks,the satisfaction of the 10 patients with dentures was investigated using the questionnaires,and each item in the questionnaires was quantified with visual analog scale(VAS).Results VAS scores of lingualized occlusion for the ability to masticate and the stability and retention of dentures were significantly higher than those of anatomic bilateral balanced occlusion(all P0.05).However,there were no statistically significant differences in VAS scores for aesthetics,speech function and comfort between lingualized occlusion and anatomic bilateral balanced occlusion(all P0.05).Conclusion Patients wearing complete dentures with have higher satisfaction with the ability to masticate and the stability and retention of dentures.
