Clinical Evaluation of Dinoprostone Pessary for Labor Induction in term Pregnancy

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of dinoprostone pessary in intermediate labor induction.Methods Retrospective analysis 320 cases in our hospital between Jan.to Oct.2008 who were term pregnancy and were placed with dinoprostone pessary to induce labor.The other 320 cases of women of labor spontaneous in the same condition was considered as control group.The labor and pregnancy outcome were compared between the two groups.Results In the study group,after using dinoprostone pessary,the pregnant women of labor were 268(83.75%),the number of labor with the help of intravenous oxytocin were 33(10.31%)and the number of unsuccessfully induced labor were 19(5.94%).The first and second stage was abbreviated in the study group(P0.01,P0.05).The rate of oxytocin usage and cesarean section in the study group is lower than in the control group(P0.01).No statistical difference were observed in the rate of fetal distress,neonatal asphyxia and postpartum hemorrhage between the tweo groups(P0.05).Conclusion Dinoprostone pessary is safe and effective for labor induction in term pregnancy.We should pay attention to its indication and the opportunity of withdrawal to ensure safety and achievement ratio.
