Abstract

AIM: To compare the effects of felodipine extended_release(ER) with nitrendipine on hypertensive disease. METHODS: Among 162 mild to moderate hypertensive patients, 98 patients (M 67, F 31, age 51 a±s 6 a) received felodipine_ER 5_10 mg, po, qd for 4 wk; 64 patients (M 47, F 17, age 50 a±8 a) received nitrendipine 10 mg, po, bid or tid for 4 wk. RESULTS: The clinical total effective rate of felodipine_ER group was higher than that of nitrendipine group (95% vs 81%, P0.01). Adverse effects of felodipine_ER group were fewer than those of nitrendipine group (15% vs 20%, P0.05). CONCLUSION: Felodipine_ER is a safe and effective drug on hypertensive disease, and superior to nitrendipine. 1The People's Hospital of Jimo City, Jimo SHANDONG 266200
