On Characteristics and Spatial Difference of Floating Populations in Guangzhou

By questionnaires of floating population in four representative regions of Guangzhou,the characteristics and spatial difference of floating population are analyzed,including population basic attribute,migration,employment as well as economic situation.It is found that: in the floating population of Guangzhou,male is more than female,middle-aged people take main part of the total floating population,married and unmarried ratio is about 50﹪,their average educational level is at junior and senior middle school,their household registry places are mainly in Guangdong,Hunan,Guangxi,Hubei,Jiangxi,Henan and Sichuan.They have been to Guangzhou mostly for a period from one month to one year;their main intention is to make money;their approach to Guangzhou is generally through relative’s or friend’s introduction.Peasants and students lead the pre-job identities of floating population;now they mainly obtain employment in private-owned enterprises;few people make contract with their employer;and they change jobs frequently.Their income are at middle-low level;and total consumptive level is low.
