Clinical care ability of the nurses in the elderly ward

Abstract
Objective:To analyze the clinical care ability in the elderly ward. Methods: 100 nurses in elderly department from a three-tier hospital were investigated by convenient sampling method. Results: The caring ability was lower than the norm. Nurses with different titles and different working years had significant difference in the nursing knowledge, courage, and patience (P0.05), while nurses-in-charge better than nurse practitioners and nurses (P0.05), nurses with working years longer than or equal to 11 years better than nurses with 1 to 5 working years and nurses with 6 to 10 working years (P0.05). 68.18% nurses-in-charge and 68.00% nurses with working years longer than or equal to 11 years always implemented nursing care in their work. Conclusion: The overall care ability was poor, especially nurses with low-titles and short working years. The nursing managers should strengthen relevant training to enhance nurses' care awareness and ability.
