Theoretical Outline of “the Yellow River Science”

The Yellow River and the Loess Plateau is the unique natural geographical unit in the world. The Yellow River basin was the birthplace of the Chinese civilization. To establish and develop “the Yellow River science” of taking the Yellow River and its drainage area as an object of study has significant meanings in many aspects of fixing the source of the Yellow River, encouraging the Yellow River spirit, developing the Yellow River culture, carrying forward the Yellow River civilization, promoting integrated study of the Yellow River and pushing on the development and management of the Yellow River. It also has the possibilities on the aspects of object, visual angle and foundation of study. “The Yellow River science” should be an integrated subject established on the natural science, social human studies, literature and art and technical science and have the characteristics of integrity, regionality and concretization, including 6 study aspects of its own basic theory, natural law of the Yellow River and its drainage area, social development law, culture and art, natural and social system and study methods. It should develop the studies of related theories, practice and methods as soon as possible for establishing “the Yellow River science”.
