Abstract
Objective:To investigate the levels of human serum adiponectin and the relation between plasma adiponectin and leptin as well as insulin in aged Type 2 diabetes with or without hypertension. Methods: 75 subjects from Wuhan were recruited. All measurements (independent variables) were taken at the same time by taking history and physical examination followed by collection of fasting blood samples for analysis. Results: ① The levels of the serum adiponectin showed no significant difference between the aged Type 2 diabetes and aged Type 2 diabetes with hypertension, but the levels of adiponectin of them were lower than those in control group. Plasma levels of adiponectin showed no difference between the aged and the young control groups. ② Plasma adiponectin levels negatively correlated with BMI, fasting and 1h,2h postprandial plasma glucose, glucose intolerance in OGTT, insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), hypertension, leptin and apoA. The plasma adiponectin levels positively correlated with HDL. In step regression analysis, BMI, leptin and fasting plasma glucose remained significantly related to plasma adiponectin concentrations after adjustment for all other variables in the model. Conclusion: Plasma levels of adiponectin in the aged people with diabetes were lower than those in nondiabetic subjects. These results suggest that there is a mutual modulatory pertinence among the obesity, type 2 diabetes, leptin, insulin and adiponectin.
