Modernity and Humanism: on Cai Yuanpei’s Thoughts on Aesthetic Education

Abstract

In the modern history of Chinese aesthetic education, Cai Yuanpei is one of the most influencing figures. During the process of his denying traditional aesthetic education views, his views in aesthetic education change from emphasizing category and colony to centering on individual and aiming at sane personality. Cai Yuanpei gives an independent status as a discipline to aesthetic education and puts it into practice in real life. Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education thoughts are full of humanism and modernity.
