Abstract
Using corn starch as raw material,3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride as cationic agent, cationic starch with different degree of substitution(DS) were prepared by semi-dry process.Application of the cationic starch in flocculation was studied by simulated kaolin water sample in laboratory. The effects of DS and amount of cationic starch,pH value, flocculation time, flocculation temperature on flocculation performance were studied. The mechanism of flocculation was analyzed. The result indicated cationic starch had a good flocculation performance when it was used in kaolin water sample, for it could remove mostly the turbidity of the kaolin water sample.
