Abstract

Objective To evaluate the primary posterior capsulotomy in preventing posterior capsular opacififcation after posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation of traumatic cataract in children. Methods The primary posterior capsulotomy was performed on 32 cases (33 eyes) of posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation and followed up over 5 months to 4 years. Results 24 eyes(72.72%) could keep the central visual axis transparent. The postoperative visual acuity was 0.5 or better in 16 eyes (48.48%),0.3 or better in 23 eyes (69.7%).None of the case was discovered to develop serious complication. Conclusion Primary posterior capsulotomy can not prevent the development of posterior capsular opacification completely, but it can reduce posterior capsular opacification effectively.
