19th Century Based on the Influence of Chinese-translated Books of the Western Msissionaries on the Japanese Vocabulary

The exchange of vocabulary between China and Japan had been enjoying a long history. Chinese characters were introduced to Japan more than 1000 years ago, a great amount of which are still in use today. The history of the exchange of vocabulary between China and Japan, according to its characteristic, can be divided into two periods-pre-and post 19th century period. The exchange before 19th century was unilateral introduction, say, China-Japan. That after 19th century was relatively special and complex, interlaced somewhere. The thesis will explore the exchange of vocabulary between China and Japan in 19th century based on the influence of Chinese-translated books of the western missionaries on the Japanese vocabulary.
