Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of finasteride on vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density(MVD) in rat prostate tissues.Methods Forty male SD rats were subcutaneously injected with testosterone propionate in neck every other day for 28 d to establish benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) model.And then the rats were randomly divided into 5 groups.The rats were gavaged with the placebo in group A,and with finasteride for 1 week,2 weeks,3 weeks,4 weeks in groups B,C,D,E,respectively.VEGF and CD31 expression in rat prostate tissues was assessed by immunohistochemical method.Results The expression of VEGF and MVD in groups B,C,D and E was significantly lower than in group A(P0.05).The expression of VEGF and MVD in groups B,C was significantly higher than in groups D and E(P0.05),but there was no significant difference between groups B and C,between groups D and E(P0.05).Conclusion Finasteride could effectively inhibit VEGF expression in rat prostate tissues and degrade MVD,and the degree of inhibition is related to the action time of finasteride.
