Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and reliability of clobetasol propionate compound ointment for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. Methods: A multicenter randomized double-blind control clinical study was carry out. 360 patients with psoriasis vulgaris were divided into three groups and treated for four weeks. Group A (treatment group) was treated with clobetasol propionate compound ointment therapy, group B (control group 1) with 0.02% clobetasol propionate cream and group C (control group 2) with 0.05% all-trans-retinoic acid cream. Results: The curative rates were 48.33% for group A?18.33% for group B and 3.48% for group C. The efficacy rates were 92.50%? 50.83% and 31.30%, respectively. Incomparison between treatment group and control groups there was statistical difference (P 0.01) in the curative rates and efficacy rates. In the treatment group and control group 1 only mild side effects were found, and side effects were found in 11.67% patients of control group 2, three of them had to stop their therapy. Conclusions: Clobetasol propionate compound ointment is an effective and safe topical agent for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris, and its efficacy is better than that of 0.02% clobetasol propionate cream and 0.05% all-trans-retinoic acid cream alone.
