Abstract
Objective:To compare the efficacy and side effects of venlafaxine and fluoxetine in the treatment of depression. Methods:80 patients with depression were randomly assigned to venlafaxine group and fluoxetine group for 6 weeks.The efficacy was evaluated with Hamilton depression scale(HAMD),and the side effects were evaluated with treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS).Results: The total score of HAMD in venlafaxine group was significantly lower than that in fluoxetine group after one-week and two-week treatment.No significant differences were found in clinical efficacy and side effects between two groups.Conclusions: Both venlafaxine and fluoxetine are effective antidepressants with fewer side effect.However,venlafaxine took effect more quickly.
