Abstract

Objective:To validate the efficacy of thoracic drainage with central venous catheter in treatment of pleural effusion.Methods:Clinical data including the volume,the duration and the full absorption rate of pleural effusion from 210 patients(group A)undergoing thoracic drainage using central venous catheter were retrospectively analyzed and and compared with 182 patients(group B) using traditional extraction to drainage.Results:The average volume of pleural effusion was(4682±1235)ml in group A,and(2470±1040)ml in group B;the duration of pleural effusion in group A and B was(6.5±2.6)d and(23.6±9.3)d respectively;the full absorption rate was 73.8%(group A) and 25.8%(group B).They were significantly different(P 0.01).Conclusion:The method of thoracic drainage using central venous catheter was safer and more effective than the traditional measure.
