Abstract

Messiah is a unique image earnestly described in Wang Meng's novels.A careful study of Messiah and its implications can help reveal Wang Meng's pilgrimage reflected from his works from sincere glorification of revolutionary carnival to reflections on myth of intellectuals as the saviours and further to deep doubt toward Messeahism at last. This pilgrimage is not only Wang Meng's spiritual experience of self-examination and self-rescue as an intellectual but also the process in which Wang Meng adjusts his cultural mentality and historical position.
