Abstract

The wave resistance of single hull ships with or without bulbous bows was calculated with the improved Noblesse's slender ship theory in conjunction with the technique of elementary-wave-steepness restriction theory.Optimization of the shape parameters of bulbous bows was then carried out using a genetic algorithm. Then the wave resistance reduction of twin bulbous bows was considered. The results show that, within a given range of speeds,high-speed ship DV8 with twin-bulbous-bows experience somewhat reduced wave resistance, the maximum up to 38.5%.
