Abstract

In the medium of HCl,and catalysed by potassium bromide,idodic acid radical can oxidate and decolorate methyl red very well. The gap of absorbency before and after decoloration has a direct ratio with concentration of iodine.It is showed in the experiment that the maxium absorbance is at 518 nm.The linear range is 0~50 μg/25 mL.The apparent molar absorptivity of methyl red is 6.5×104 L·mol-1·cm-1.The method has been used in the determination of iodine in iodates and iodic salt and have a satisfactory results.
