Abstract
Aim To investigate the clinicopathologic,immunohistochemical and histologic classification of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).Methods 29 cases of GISTs were studied by routine stain and immunohistochemisty.Results GISTs affect predominantly the stomach and small intestines .The main clinical manifestations were gastrointestinal hemorrhage and abdominal pain. In 29 cases of GISTs,the positive rates by immunohistochemical methods for Vimentin,SMA,S-100,and CD 34 were 96.5%,41.3%,17.2%,86.2% respectively.Conclusion Despite their similar light microscopic appearance.GISTs have multiple differentiated characteristic.Immunohistochemisty play a main role in the diagnosis of GISTs,whereas CD 34 has relatively high specificity and sensitivity.
