Observation on the Curative Effect of Acupuncture on 35 Cases of Intercostal Neuralgia Subsequent to Herpes Zoster

Abstract

Purpose To investigate the curative effect of acupuncture on intercostal neuralgia subsequent to herpes zoster.Method Thirty-five patients with intercostal neuralgia subsequent to herpes zoster were divided into an acupuncture group (18 cases) and a Western medicine group (17 cases) as a control. The curative effects were compared.Results and conclusion The total effective rate was 72% in the acupuncture group and 30% in the Western medicine group. There was a significant difference between the two groups (P0.05).The curative effect of acupuncture on sequela to herpes zoster was significantly superior to that of oral analgetics. Acupuncture is clinically an important method for treating this type of diseases.
