Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In order to properly regulate the structure of drug usage and make scientific hospital management, the present status of drug usage in four hospitals was evaluated .METHODS: The data of drugs used in four different grade hospitals of Lanzhou Railway Bureau during the period 1999-2000 were analysed concerning the drug class and subclass, distribution and proportion of sum of money, the order of individual drug, the popularity of the first 20 drugs in order of sum of money in these four hospitals, and the proportion of drugs which were listed in the catalog of basic drugs in four hospitals. RESULTS: The sum of money of anti - infectives accounted for 43.42% and 44.87% of the total sum of money,and three kinds of cephalosporins amounted to 94.86% and 96.95% of that of total anti - infectives in 1999 and 2000 respectively, with an increasing tendency.The kinds of drugs used in four hospitals accounted for 51.85% of total kinds in catalog.CONCLUSION: The structure of drug usage is basically rational.
