Abstract
This paper describes the main characteristics on satellite altimetry and how to apply altimeter data to the scientific,military and civil economic construction fields.The paper also discusses the re-search status of satellite altimetry and the achievement of digital sea from satellite altimeter data.In the end the current aim of satellite altimetry is analysed and the approach of how to develop the technology of satellite altimetry and how to construct Chinese digital sea are suggested.
