"mandian" in Wuhan Dialect

Abstract

Besides the same and function as in Mandarin, the word mandian has some special meanings and functions in Wuhan dialect. From grammar sense, as a conjunction in complex sentence, there is a function of mandian in wuhan dialect ,Which can make the relationship between the two parts of the complex sentence to be assumptions and a kind of meaning shift. From pragmatic side, mandian in sentence can emphasize the result of the complex sentence. At the same time it can also streamline the language, to express a special effect.
