Abstract

Cross-cultural foreign language teaching gives teachers a new role to play.Somewhat they are also learners.A questionnaire shows that foreign language teachers are still weak in systematic cultural knowledge. Therefore, language teachers should first act as learners of cultural knowledge in their preparation for culture teaching. Moreover,it is found in the questionnaire that teachers are not familiar with the way culture teaching takes, not to mention the teachers' role as learner.Sharing the learning experience with students can help them construct their own way of learning culture. The reasons and the function of teachers' role as learner in culture teaching are also mentioned.Meanwhile, how teachers can play the role of learners is also briefly dealt with in these three aspects: teachers' attitude, the stage of preparation for culture teaching and the stage of actual culture teaching.
