Abstract

Objective To evaluate the use of MRU in the diagnosis of ureteral stone. Methods 47 cases of ureteral stone were diagnosed on MRU,in 15 of which the urinary tract has not been demonstrated on IVU.3 of the cases were a solitary kidney with ureteral stone. In 6 cases, there were bilateral ureteral stones with hydroureteronephrosis.Renal failure was noted in 5 cases.Retrograde intubation failed in 3 and another two patients were sensitive to iodine.8 patients refused either retrograde or intravenous urogram.5 patients were of advanced age. Results In 34 of the 47(72%),the urinary tract around the stone has been clearly visualized. Conclutions The combined use of MRU and KUB is a better means to diagnose ureteral stones which have been difficult to be diagnosed on conventional methods.
