Influence of Shenfu Injection on Inflammatory Cytokines and Prognosis in Patients with Severe Sepsis

Objeetive: To evaluate the clinical therapeutic efficacy of Shenfu injection on patients with severe sepsis and approach its therapeutic mechanism.Methods: Sixty-eight patients with severe sepsis were divided into a Shenfu group(36 cases) and a control group(32 cases);The two groups were treated with conventional therapy of western medicine(According to International guidelines for management of severe sepsis and septic shock: 2008 from surviving Sepsis Campaign).And the treated group was received 100mL Shenfu injection intravenous drip once a day at the base of conventional therapy.The therapeutic course of both groups was 7 days.The acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II(APACHE II)score and Mashall score were observed before and on the 3rd,the 7th day after treatment,and the 28d mortality rate were observed.the serum levels of interleukin-6(IL-6) and IL-10 were measured by enzyme-labeled immunosorbent assay(ELISA) of both groups before and after the treatment.Results: There were insignificant difference of the APACHE II score,Mashall score,IL-6,IL-10 between treatment group and control group before any treatment(P0.05).APACHE II score and Mashall score of all patients descreased after treatment,the therapeutic group descreased more,and there was significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The 28d mrotality rate in treatment group and control group were 25% and 37.5%,respectively,and no significantly difference between the two groups was found(P0.05).But significantly difference of the average surviving time was found between the two groups(15.52 days vs 11.10 days,P0.05).The changes of IL-6 in the serum showed the decrease tendency.In comparison with the control goup,level of IL-6 in the serum were significantly lower in shenfu treatment group(P0.05).But no significant difference of IL-10 between the two groups in this hole experiment was found(all P0.05).Conclusions: The intervention effect of shenfu injection was alleviate the acute degree of septic patients,prolonged there survival and duration.The positive result of shenfu injection maybe with relation to keeping proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines on the balance.
