Abstract
Objective Cytotoxicity is an important indicator to the biocompatibility of biomaterials.In this study, the cytotoxicity of HA coated artificial bone was evaluated by the method of cell relative growth rate in vitro using L-929 mouse fibroblast.Method The effects of an artificial bone which polymer with HA coating and fiber liners on the proliferation of mouse fibroblast L929 cells were investigated using a tetrazolium based colorimetric assay(MTT assay). 5 different concentration of maceration extract of HA-coated bone were added into culture plate. The samples were tested at 2,4 ,7days respectively after the addition of extract.Result The maceration extract of the artificial bone did not inhibit the cell growth. Scanning electron microscopic observation revealed that L929 cells growing showed normal morphology. The toxicity graduation of the artificial bone was 0-1.Conclusion The results indicate that the artificial bone is compatible with the tested cells. The artificial bone had no cytotoxicity.
