Abstract

According to the road traffic accident statistic materials in China from 2000 to 2006,and with focus on 2006,the current developing situation of highway traffic accidents and its regional differences and accident characteristics are analyzed.Study shows that road traffic accident trend has turned from rapid ascending to continuous descending since 2003.However,expressway traffic accidents and road traffic accidents in western area are still likely to increase. In contrast with less developing area, the total number of traffic accidents in developing areas is bigger and the mortality rate is lower. The mortality rate in national roads, provincial roads and high-grade roads is much greater than that in other kinds of roads.About 80% death accidents are caused by vehicles' mutual impact or colliding pedestrian or turning over which occur in straight roads,ordinary-curved roads or ordinary-sloped roads;and 76% especially serious accidents occur due to car-fall or front crash.Bad weather conditions like fog and snow are more easily to lead to traffic accident on high-grade highway.
