Abstract

A new configuration for a circularly polarized microstrip antenna with an omnidirectional pattern is proposed. This antenna consists of two rectangular patches with perturbation segments, which are arranged back-to-back relative to a Coplanar Waveguide(CPW) on a ground plane. The width of the substrates and ground plane is narrower than that of the conventional unidirectional rectangular patch, which makes this antenna radiate omnidirectional wave in azimuth plane. An antenna with proposed structure at Ku-band is designed.Measured results show that the proposed antenna can an input impedance bandwidth of 5.4% and axial ratio less than 2.8dB in azimuth plane. This design contributes great help to the next research on millimeter wave circularly polarized antenna with an omnidirectional pattern.
