Abstract
Objective To investigate the protection of Wuweibaoganwan(WWBGW)-traditional Chinese medicine-onacute hepatic damage in rats caused by carbon tetrachloride(CCl4). Methods Sixty Wistar rats were evenly randomized to six groups: normal control(NC),model control(MC) group, bifendate group,high-,medium-,and low-dose WWBGW group. To those in NC and MC group,20 g/L CMC-Na solution was given;those in bifendate group, treated with 10 g/L bifendate suspl;those in high-,medium-,and low-dose WWBGW group, were treated with WWBGW suspl.of 0.315 0,0.157 5,and0.078 8 kg/L,respectively.The medication in all groups was given through intragastric administration, once a day for seven days. After 24 h of the last medication,CCl4(1 mL/kg) was given to those in the five groups, except NC group,by way of intraperitoneal injection, and to those in NC group, equal dose of normal saline was injected. The activity of serum GPT and GOT;the contents of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) in homogenate of liver as well as pathologic changes of liver tissue were observed. Results WWBGW notably decreased the activity of serum ALT,AST and liver MDA,and increased SOD in model rats. Conclusion WWBGW possesses a significant protection effect on liver and decreases aminopherase in model rats with acute hepatic damage induced by CCl4.
