Abstract
Objective:To explore the correlation between morning blood pressure surge(MBPS)and target organ damage(TOD)in aged patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods:According to 24hambulatory blood pressure,a total of 292aged EH patients were divided into MBPS group(n=128)and non-MBPS group(n=164).Blood lipids,fasting blood glucose,creatinine were measured and body mass index(BMI)was calculated.Heart and carotid ultrasonography were performed,and left ventricular mass index(LVMI)and carotid intima-media thickness(IMT)were calculated.Results:Compared with non-MBPS group,there were significant increase in 24hsystolic blood pressure(SBP)[(138.2±13.2)mmHg vs.(153.1±12.1)mmHg],daytime SBP[(143.3±12.7)mmHg vs.(158.2±9.1)mmHg],night SBP[(136.6±9.4)mmHg vs.(150.7±10.1)mmHg],LVMI[(101.76±34.45)g/ m2 vs.(138.13±37.6)g/m2]and carotid IMT[(0.84±0.11)mm vs.(1.35±0.35)mm]in MBPS group,P 0.05all;Pearson correlation analysis indicated that MBPS was positively correlated with LVMI and IMT(r= 0.688,0.524,P0.05both).Conclusion:Morning blood pressure surge could aggravate target organ damage in aged patients with essential hypertension.
