The old city of Beijing was the capital city of China during the Ming Qing Dynasties. Its urban planning has generally been acknowledged as the last classic of the capital urban planning in ancient China.Because of the destruction of the city walls both inside and outside of the city, the broadening and reconstructing of roads and the construction of high buildings inside the city, the original urban planning and architectural style of the old city of Beijing have been done away with. The UNESCO,therefore, has not accepted the old city of Beijing as a piece of world cultural legacy. In relation to its significance in the history of the urban planning in both the world and China, however,it is extremely urgent for us to rescue the street planning and the historical atmosphere of the old city of Beijing.
