Aripiprazole Combined with Paroxetine in the Treatment of Treatment Resistant Depression

Objective To explore the effect of Aripiprazole combined with paroxetine in the treatment of treatment resistant depression.Method 64 patients with treatment resistant depression were randomly assigned into two groups,aripiprazole combined with paroxetine and paroxetine alone for 8 weeks.The clinical eff icacy were evaluated by the Hamilton depressive scale(HAMD).Adverse events were evaluated by the treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) and related laboratory examinations.Results As compared with patients treated with paroxetine alone,the HAMD scores of the patients treated by combination of aripiprazole with paroxetine decreased signif icantly after 2 weeks treatment(P0.05).After treatment,68.75% of the patients treated by combination of aripiprazole with paroxetine were effectual,and 46.8% of the patients treated with paroxetine alone.Conclusion The combination of aripiprazole with paroxetine is better than paroxetine alone in the treatment of treatment resistant depression.
