Vitrectomy Combined with C_3F_8 Injection in the Treatment for Retinal Detachment Caused by Macular Hole

Abstract
Purpose To discuss the clinical effect and the failing causes of vitrectomy with C3F8 injection in the treatment for retinal detachment caused by macular hole. Methods 18 cases (18 eyes) of retinal detachment caused by macular hole were treated with vitrectomy and injection of C3F8. Results Retinal reattachment and closure of macular holes were obtained in 16 eyes, and the vision recovered considerable in 14 eyes. The success rate was 88.9%, but retinal detachment recurred in 2 eyes after 1 month. Conclusion Vitrectomy combined with C3F8 injection is a simple and effective treatment for retinal detachment caused by macular hole, which can increase the reattaching rate of a single operation. Removal of proliferative vitreous and disentanglement of macular pucker are imperative in the vitrectomy with C3F8 injection.
