Abstract
The spatial distribution of water resource shortage in China is summed up from the practical condition and sustaining development angles.The actuality and trend of water resource are reviewed,the characteristic of water cycle and water resource utilization in arid region of Northwest China are analyzed.And research advances on water cycle and effective utilization of water resource in arid region are summarized,the scientific countermeasures about effective utilization of water resource in arid region are preliminarily discussed.Finally,some important scientific issues about water cycle and effective utilization of water resource in arid region of Northwest China are put forward.
