Abstract

The protective enzyme activity in the leaves of Ammodendron argenteum(Pall.) Kuntze seedlings under salinity, drought and salinity-drought mixed stresses were studied by pot culture so as to reveal the adaptability of A.argenteum to different stresses. The results show that the SOD,POD and CAT activities were significantly increased under the slight and moderate stresses, and they were also increased coordinately under the salinity-drought mixed stresses before T2D stress. The protective enzyme activity could not be kept at a high level under the severe salinity and salinity-drought mixed stresses. It can be concluded that the protective enzyme activity plays an active role in the stress resistance of A.argenteum.The study results also reveal that the drought resistance capacity of A.argenteum seedlings can be increased under the appropriate salinity stress. The study results can provide the theoretical bases for deeply understanding the growing status of A.argenteum under different stresses.
