Abstract
9615 Typhoon landed to the coast of Wuchuan, Zhanjiang City on September9,1996. It caused great disaster in the West Pearl River Estuary area, such as Zhanjiang,Maoming and Yangjiang. Because its destructive power was far beyond the defence standardof hydraulic engineering facilities and could hardly be aware by people, those led to greatloss. And it was rarely seen in history. It has caused the largest disaster since liberation.The experience we learned from 9615Typhoon is good for the flood prevention in future.The reasons that caused the disaster are mainly by the objective factors. Subjective factorsalso made some effects. It was analyzed the reasons that caused the damage in detail.And the relative disaster mitigation strategy was suggested.
