Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of embolization aneurysms with the guglielmi detachable coils(GDC). Methods From February to August, 1998, 56 patients with 56 intracranial anuerysms were treated withGDC. 13 of 56 cases were treated in acute stage of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 7 patients had Hunt and Hessgrade Ⅳ, 14 patients had grade Ⅲ and 35 patients had grade Ⅰ to Ⅱ. Results Neither death nor permanent complication occurred in our group. 2 patients with anterior communicating artery aneurysm suffered transient paralysis after embolization, but recovered one week after medical treatment. A complete occlusion was achieved angiographicallyin 44 of 56 cases and partial embolization in 8 cases. No long term follow-up data is available because all patients areof less than 6 months for embolization. Conclusions Endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms with GDC isa better alternative. But the long-term effects should be verified by follow-up in the future.
